10 Things I Learned from the Passion of Christ

10 Things I Learned from the Passion of Christ

10 Things I Learned from the Passion of Christ

The passion of Christ or the suffering that Jesus endured despite being innocent of the crimes the rabbis accused him of, is not merely a history lesson to be reenacted for posterity. There are critical life lessons from the way of the cross that we can carry forward into our own lives. These lessons are not simply to be revisited come Easter week. They have to be considered and practiced throughout the lives we lead.

Here are the 10 most important lessons that the passion of Christ teaches us.

1. Courage: While some traditionalists may believe that Jesus freed us from original sin by sacrificing himself on the cross, the most obvious aspect of the suffering that Christ faced on his way to Calvary is the courage and fortitude that he showed. Being wronged may not necessarily be a part of everyday life but when it does happen, learning the strength with which Jesus faced his trials is a lesson all of us could use.

2. The Willingness to Surrender: God’s divine plan has a logic that may not be apparent in our time. Nor is God responsible for man’s depravity and independent actions. By accepting God’s will in times of adversity, we make ourselves stronger to lead life in more exemplary ways.

3. The Habit of Prayer: Indulging in everyday prayer keeps us morally honest, mentally sincere, and psychologically healthy. Unburdening yourself, especially as part of praying communities does wonders in helping you sort and prioritize difficulties in life.

4. Patience: Jesus knew that he was innocent and that the trials of a manipulated mob were unjust. Yet he chose to suffer and accept death at the hands of his aggressors. His quiet fortitude and tenacity is borne out by his successfully creating an example for the world to follow.

5. Forgiveness: Following off the last argument, knowing how to forgive those who have wronged you is one of the hardest lessons in life. Jesus showed us exactly how this could be done, 2000 years ago.

6. Perseverance: Jesus is said to have been singular in the tenets of his faith despite having the world conspire against him. This speaks volumes about how consistent we should remain and persist in our moral principles no matter how lonely it gets.

7. The Ability to Take on Suffering: Suffering isn’t just physical pain that you may have undergone during an illness or an experience with disability. It is also the mental dejection that you face when you have to depend upon others for the slightest of needs. The passion teaches us how Jesus used the power of prayer when things became too tough to endure. He does express his anguish momentarily. But in the end, he is strong as ever. That is the example we can learn to follow.

8. Emerging from Redemption: There are times when we feel so dejected by the wrongs we may have committed in the past that we fail to see how we can make amends in the future. Every minor act matters as Jesus showed when he chose to forgive the criminal, Barabbas for his small act of kindness by the cross.

9. Looking for Hope: Even when all the world seems against us, being able to see things in perspective and persisting with habits of kindness, justness, and compassion, helps us hold on to our Christianity. Prayer helps as well.

10. Preparing for a Better End: As Christians, we are free to live our lives fully, struggling in the pursuit of a skill, a study, or a calling. We’re also free to love, laugh, and play. But our faith strongly directs us to prepare for a place in a kingdom that’s not of this world.

The Salvation Garden virtually opens the gates for you, and for Christians around the world, giving you direct access to Jerusalem’s holy sites. Now you can send your prayer and have it physically placed in your chosen site of worship in the Holy Land. Write your prayer request here.

Faith Lessons For St. Patrick’s Day

Faith Lessons For St. Patrick’s Day

Even if you are not catholic, buckets of gold and leprechauns will floor your life in March. These modern day trinkets, have nothing to do with St. Patrick. No matter what denomination you are, powerful christian lessons can be found in this holiday.

God can turn curses into blessings.

Before becoming a saint, Patrick did not have an easy life. He was stolen from his Christian home and brought to Ireland as a slave. Before being kidnapped, Patrick was not a devout man, but hardship brought him close to God.

He began to pray. As a slave, Patrick prayed every day, whenever he could. After many hard years, God spoke to Patrick.

Listening to God, Patrick escaped and found a boat that brought him home. Later in life, Patrick began spreading the Gospel and returned to Ireland.

Patrick spread the Holy Word throughout Ireland, and even converted his former slave master. They worked together bringing God’s message to the country.

God is always listening, even during your darkest days.

Patrick accepted God into his heart while he was a slave. In Patrick’s hardest times, God guided him. And in our hardest times, we must remember to run towards God.

Do not run away from faith. Make an urgent prayer request and God will hear you, because God is with us every step of the way.

The bucket of gold at the end of the rainbow is your relationship with God.

We, The Salvation Garden, offer you the chance to send your urgent prayer requests for any reason. Allow us to pray for you! Send your Urgent Prayer Requests now.

Our dedicated team members will personally take your urgent prayer requests to a Church of your choice in the Holy Land and then offer them to our Lord. After we bring your prayer requests to your chosen Holy Church, we will send you videos or pictures to assure you.

The Ascension of Jesus

Exactly 40 days after Resurrection, Jesus departed from Earth and rose into Heaven in the presence of His apostles. Ever since, Ascension Day is celebrated on Thursday, 40 days after Easter Sunday.

On Ascension Day, the hearts and eyes of Christians from around the world are focused on a specific point. To the East of the old city of Jerusalem, in the heart of the Holy Land, stands the ancient Mount of Olives, the exact location of the Ascension of Jesus.

Ascension Day Delegation to the Holy Ascension Site

This year, when travel is limited and pilgrimage is almost impossible, the Salvation Garden team plans a special prayer on top of the Mount of Olives on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 13th, 2021. We invite the members of our prayer community to participate in this unique prayer opportunity.

Unfortunately, the Mount of Olives is located in a disputed area, where Israelis and Palestinians had clashed in the past and there is a security challenge. Nevertheless, we plan the delegation to the Mount of Olives on Ascension Thursday and we will take the necessary security measures.

To place your personal prayer request, which we will pray for you on the site of Ascension on Ascension Day, please click here.

There, after writing your prayer request and selecting at least one Holy Land church, click “Continue” and then, select the Ascension Day option to be added.

To help with the travel costs, and especially the security measures, we collect donations and we thank you in advance for your generosity. Last year, in the months of 2020 and with Covid-19 related restrictions, the costs were higher than donations, but we were able to close the year and move forward. Again, thank you for any donation, big or small.

Prayer Request Delegation to Capernaum

Prayer Request Delegation Capernaum

The spring season is just starting in the Holy Land and a perfect warm and sunny weather welcomed our special delegation to Capernaum. We traveled to the North of Israel to pray for our community members from around the world. The selected location was specifically selected by Jesus over 2,000 years ago.

Carrying with us your Holy Land prayer requests, We began the day early in the morning at Chorazin, a ancient settlement also mentioned in the Bible. The antique ruins of a beautiful synagogue tell a story of a strong community that lived here, where Jesus chose to spend several years. The fields around are still green, some with wild barley, as the area was know for growing wheat and barley.

Following our local guide, we then walked for half a day downhill, surrounded by green fields and wild plum trees. Looking closely at the trees, it’s easy to notice small thorns. Yes, these are no other but the Ziziphus Spina-Christi trees, known as the Christ’s Thorn Jujube. These trees were used for the crown of thorns placed on Christ’s head during His crucifixion.

As we continue to walk, a magnificent view opens in front of our eyes. A blue lake reveals itself in the distance, the Sea of Galilee. This view hasn’t changed throughout the many years that had passed. The Biblical view, the atmosphere, the blessing in the wind. All feels the same.

An amazing view of the Sea of Galilee

After several hours we reached the Northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. In this area called Capernaum, after the ancient Hebrew name Kfar Nahum (the Village of Nahum), Jesus chose to live for three years. Here He selected the first Apostles. And more than anything, here he answered prayers and performed miracles.

Prayers where directly answered by Jesus in this holy place. Jesus expelled a demon from a possessed man here (Mark 1:21-27). He cured a Roman officer’s servant of palsy, the centurion is thought to have had the synagogue built (Luke 7:3). Here Jesus also raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Luke 8:41-53).

Today, several churches stand in this holy site, referred to in the Bible as Jesus’ Own Town or the Town of Jesus. An old Catholic church in the Western side, alongside a Franciscan monastery. A Greek Orthodox Monastery to the East’ alongside the Church of the 12 Apostles. In between a long path allows believers to walk calmly and absorb the atmosphere. Not very far above, the Beatitude Monastery has beautiful views of the entire Capernaum area.

A Moment for Urgent Prayers

A Moment for Urgent Prayers

There are times in our lives when it feels like nothing can go right. In these moments of despair, we must remember our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is watching over us. And He will hear our urgent prayer requests.

Through prayer, we can find hope again.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:1-4

Do not fear evil. He is listening and if it is in His will, he will answer our prayers and provide us miracles.

A short, simple and powerful prayer will keep you strong. Make a prayer request for healing. Or pray for love and compassion.

Whatever is in your heart, will come out through your prayers. Do not lose faith. We all need to make an urgent prayer request sometimes.

God can answer our prayers

Pray for Love

Pray for Love on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated throughout most of the world by bringing roses and chocolates to our loved ones. It is a day full of candy shaped hearts and stuffed teddy bears.

This year on Valentine’s Day, you can pray for love in the Holy Land.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

The love each of us prays for may be different. Maybe you are praying to strengthen your love with your husband or wife. You may be praying for God to help you find love. It can also be love for your parents, or your children.

But one thing is the same, we are all loved by Jesus Christ.

On Valentine’s Day, you can pray for others to find Jesus’s love and accept Him into their hearts. We can make this holiday about compassion and standing with our neighbors.

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4

Before February 14th comes, say a prayer from your heart.

Our prayer team is waiting to hand-deliver your prayers for love in the Holy Land.

Church of All Nations

Send Prayer Request Online at the Church of All Nations

The Church of All Nations sits at the base of the Mount of Olives. Right next to the church are eight ancient olive trees, growing old in the Garden of Gethsemane. One of the trees is over 2,000 years old. Local Christians believe it gave Christ shelter as He prayed the night before His crucifixion.

“And in His Anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:44

This holy site used to be called the Church of Agony. In the center of the church is the rock where Jesus stopped to pray, before He was arrested by Roman soldiers. Because of that, the original name of the church comes from the bible and His prayers of agony.

The bedrock where Jesus prayed in anguish

The current structure is built on top of the foundations of two earlier churches. The first, a 4th century basilica was destroyed in an earthquake in 746 AD. After that, crusaders built a church in the 12th century, but it was abandoned in 1345 AD.

The Church of All Nations was completed June 24th, 1924. During the renovations, a Greek inscription was found on the floor that reads, “for the memory and repose of the lovers of Christ… accept the offering of your servants and give them remission of sins”.

Money for the construction was donated from twelve different countries from around the globe. Of course, this is why we call it the Church of All Nations today.

make a unity prayer request

It is the perfect place to make a unity prayer request. The building and the garden are maintained by the Roman Catholic Church, but it is regularly used by Christians of all denominations. Protestants, Evangelicals, Lutherans, Armenian Apostolic, Eastern Orthodox and more all worship in this church.

The multi-denomination use is culturally unique and hard to find anywhere else in the world. It is truly a Church of All Nations.

“For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My Glory.” Isaiah 66:18

How to Celebrate New Years?

How to Celebrate New Years?

Most people traditionally celebrate the beginning of a new year with fireworks, friends and happy festivities. Like most of 2020, this year it is going to look a little different. Instead of feeling sorrow about the dampened holiday, we can turn to Christ.

Happy New Year from Salvation Garden

The end of the year is a good time for prayer and reflection. Even in a dark year, we can look back and find the light, because God was with us every step of the way. Now is a time when we can pray and give thanks to God. Our prayer requests can lift our spirits.

Take time to be with Christ. Praise Him for keeping us alive through a difficult year. Thank Him for things yet to come.

Our prayers can also look to the future. We can pray for a brighter new year. All of our faith and prayers can come together and ask God to end the Coronavirus. We can pray for better financial stability and good health in 2021.

Now is the time to pray to God and ask for the protection of our brothers, sisters and neighbors. The beginning of the year is filled with so much hope. May we all shine the light of Christ in the new year.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

HOW TO CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY

What is St. Patrick’s Day

You must’ve eaten those green clover-shaped cookies, crooned to the songs being played during the spectacular parades, or simply soaked in the spirit as a spectator during celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day. But have you ever wondered about what makes this an important date on the calendar? Or why is the day associated with penitence and faith? For those of you who are searching for answers to your questions on the importance of the day and why you could go on a penitential pilgrimage, read on to find out more about the religious significance of this day. But what if you are unable to make a pilgrimage to St. Patrick’s Purgatory but still seek deliverance from your sins? A prayer request to the Holy Land could help you find solace and strengthen your belief. You do not have to walk the fine line to find the right balance between your family/ work and your pursuit of divine deliverance. A prayer request can lead you down the path of penitence without you having to worry about finding the time and the resources required to undertake any journey.

First Celebration of St. Patrick’s Day

The Roman Catholics started observing Feast Day of St. Patrick on March 17 way back in the 9th or 10th century. The day was celebrated to commemorate the death anniversary of St. Patrick in the fifth century. Surprisingly, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was not held in Ireland but the USA. According to records, the first parade was organized and held in a Spanish Colony in St. Augustine, Florida, on March 17, 1601. A year earlier, the Spanish Colony’s Irish vicar, Ricardo Artur, had organized St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and a parade.

Initially, the color associated with St. Patrick’s Day celebration was blue because St. Patrick did not wear green. The ancient Irish flags featured the color blue; it was also featured as the color of the Royal Court. During the Irish Rebellion against the British in the late 18th century, the color green became synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day. It received an official stamp of recognition in 1798.

St. Patrick’s Day & Lent

Typically, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated during the Lenten season but the tradition of fasting and prohibitions against the eating of meat are waived. People feast on a traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage. The bacon was substituted with corned beef by Irish immigrants to the USA as affordability was a prime concern. Interestingly, there is no usage of corn in the traditional meal of cabbage and corned beef prepared on St. Patrick’s Day. Historically, the name “corned beef” refers to the large grains of salt used to cure meat; these grains were known as corn. The alcohol consumed on this day was known as Pota Phadraig or St. Patrick’s Pot. The tradition came to be known as “Drowning the Shamrock” as it involved raising a toast to St. Patrick and tossing a shamrock over the shoulder; people believed that doing so would bring them good luck.

The Significance of the Shamrock

Homes and public places are decorated with the shamrock – or three-leaf clovers – on St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick is believed to have popularized the shamrock to represent the Holy Trinity — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. He taught the Irish that there was only One God. The shamrock emerged as the symbol of the Holy Trinity as well as the Irish and not just a mere representation of good luck. According to legend, each leaf of the clover represents faith, hope, love, and luck.

St. Patrick’s Purgatory

This is a renowned pilgrimage site located at Station Island. Although Modernists do not believe in Purgatory and have raised doubts over its doctrine, St. Patrick’s Purgatory is a much-visited place by pilgrims. It is believed that during the 5th century, Christ showed a cave on Station Island to St. Patrick. This is said to be the entrance to the Purgatory. It is believed by many to be the answer to St. Patrick’s prayers to Christ as a considerable number of Irish people were reluctant to believe the doctrine of the Church without any substantial proof. From that time onwards, people flocked to St. Patrick’s Purgatory as a pilgrimage site.

Previously, pilgrims arrived with letters of permission issued by a Bishop. They spent 15 days fasting and praying before coming to Station Island by boat. Each pilgrim would go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, and undergo several rituals. Subsequently, a pilgrim would be locked in a cave for 24 hours. The following day, the pilgrim would start praying and fasting for another 15 days, if he was able to endure the hardship and remain alive.

Since 1632, pilgrims cannot enter the cave as it has been closed and locked. But pilgrims can still visit St. Patrick’s Purgatory. They walk barefoot and spend three days in fasting, prayer, and penance.

Coronavirus — It’s Time to Pray

Coronavirus — It’s Time to Pray

Prayer Request Against Coronavirus

Every time we switch on the television or read the newspaper the first piece of news that catches the eye are reports about the deadly Coronavirus. Although some of us take the necessary precautions, most of us think that it’s happening in other parts of the world and hasn’t yet become a cause of concern in our city. I, too, was no exception to this notion and, like scores of other people, thought that the deadly Coronavirus would hardly affect me or any of my near and dear ones. After all, we were always careful about personal hygiene, watched what we ate, and visited our family physician regularly for health check-ups.

Winter was in its last phase and bidding adieu. The weather was changing and signaling the arrival of spring. One day, my husband came home and said that he was feeling tired and a bit uneasy. I brushed it off, thinking that it was one of those typical flu symptoms that always strikes when winter is on its way out. I did not give it much thought and gave him the regular anti-allergic medicine that the doctor usually prescribed to him in such situations.

The next morning, my husband woke up with a runny nose and sore throat; he even complained of breathlessness. As he was asthmatic, we always keep his inhaler handy, especially at night. He took his regular medication and decided to stay at home and take rest. But as the day wore on, his condition worsened and he started having frequent bouts of breathlessness. I knew something didn’t feel right and decided to visit the doctor. We got an appointment for the next day as it was already too late to schedule one for the evening. During the night, he started running a temperature and developed severe breathlessness. I decided to call an ambulance and take him to a nearby hospital.

The staff at the hospital took one look at him and admitted him to the ICU. I heard them whispering among themselves that all his symptoms seemed to be of the dreaded Coronavirus. I couldn’t believe my ears and just collapsed into a nearby chair. A nurse rushed to me and consoled me saying that it was just their suspicion. Only after they ran some tests and analyzed the results, they could be certain; it was simply speculation on their part at the moment and I should not lose hope.

The doctors kept him in a segregated ward in isolation. I was not allowed to meet him but only see him from behind thick glass doors. I had never felt so lonely and helpless in my life before. It seemed as if I was standing all alone without knowing what to do.

I called my aunt and told her what had happened over the last 48 hours. She told me that she was on her way to the hospital and I should take care of myself and not lose hope.

The doctors came and took my husband away for the mandatory tests to confirm coronavirus disease. My aunt arrived at the hospital and tried to console me. She told me to be strong and pick a place where I could send an online prayer request. My head was reeling because of the turn of events. I told my aunt that I have heard about people’s prayers getting answered but would it work for me as there wasn’t even a cure for coronavirus disease? My aunt told me to have faith in the Lord and send an online prayer request to a place where I felt was the right one for me. Together, we started browsing the Internet for places where one can send an online prayer request. My aunt suggested that if I were to send one, why not send it to a place in the Holy Land? I agreed with her and chose a place where I could send an online prayer request to light a candle in my husband’s name and say a prayer on his behalf.

The doctors conducted a preliminary test on my husband to check whether the symptoms were indeed indicative of Coronavirus. The preliminary test result came out negative. Although it offered me a glimmer of hope, the doctors wanted to conduct another test to confirm whether he had Coronavirus. In the meantime, I received a photograph of my candle request and felt a bit relieved. In a few days, all the results came back and he tested negative. The doctors confirmed that the symptoms had occurred due to a severe case of upper respiratory tract infection. His symptoms were aggravated as he was a patient of asthma. But they assured me that his infection was under control and he was responding to treatment.  In a couple of weeks, he was discharged from the hospital and we came home.

My belief in the Almighty grew stronger after I had sent an online prayer request. Sometimes, we know that He is watching over us yet we need His divine blessings to touch us and give us courage and hope. Our belief in the Lord is strengthened when we are faced with the utmost difficulties in life. My experience taught me that the Lord never abandons us but shows us His mercy and divine grace.
